From model to finished print: how 3DHub quotes work
Share
If you have a 3D model, follow these steps to request a printing quote. Along with the file, we need the size, quantity, preferred material and intended use.
1. Start with an existing model
You can start with an STL or 3MF. The model can be your own or a downloaded file whose use is permitted. We currently print existing models; we do not yet offer custom design of new objects. For multi-part objects, keep the original project together.
After uploading, check the shape and size in the interactive view. A 3MF may contain several plates; the quote covers the whole assembly, not just the first visible object. Mention any missing parts or unusual appearance in the notes.
2. Choose material based on intended use
For a shelf decoration, appearance and finish may matter most. For an everyday holder, design, load and print orientation also matter. Tell us where the object will be, whether it will face heat or sunlight, and what it needs to fit.
On the material guide helps you explore the options. We check the final choice against the specific model and purpose. A material name alone does not guarantee a particular load capacity or dimensional accuracy.
3. Submit the quote request
Choosing a file and viewing an estimate is not submission. Enter your name and email in the form and describe the important details: quantity, use, colours and desired deadline. For multicolour work, a screenshot of the intended appearance is useful alongside the original 3MF.
A successful submission saves the original model and project settings. We confirm the request by email and provide tracking. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder; keep the successful submission confirmation too.
4. We check preparation and price
The slicer turns the 3D model into layer-by-layer printing instructions. This shows how the object can be placed, whether supports are needed, suitable walls and infill, and expected material use and machine time. Fine detail and print orientation also affect the finish.
The web price range is preliminary guidance. Multicolour changes and purging require separate checking; their cost cannot be determined from finished weight alone. If the size or settings need changing for your intended result, we agree this before production.
5. Production follows agreement
Printing can proceed under the accepted conditions. Submitting a quote request does not itself place an order, make a payment or automatically start production. We confirm an achievable deadline based on the job’s size, complexity and current capacity.
When finished, we check the object against its agreed purpose. Layer lines are a natural feature of layer-by-layer production; material, shape and finish determine their visibility. Colours and finishes on screen also depend on lighting and the display.
Prepare these for your quote request
- The original, clearly named STL or 3MF file.
- The desired finished size and total quantity.
- Material and colour preferences, or a brief description of use.
- Important fitting dimensions and your desired deadline.
- For multicolour work, the painted project and an illustrative screenshot.

Photograph an object made from your own model: its parts after printing, then the assembled object under the same lighting. This area illustrates the process; actual customer work is shown only with genuine data and permitted photos.
